The Aims of Col. Samuel Jones' Regiment
The original Samuel Jones' Regiment is among the best documented in the English Civil War period and it is clear that it was a well administered and well equipped unit. This gives us a good historical base on which to recreate a unit which benefited from the long periods of garrison service, but also had wide combat experience with detachments marching and fighting for Parliament with the armies of Sir William Waller.
Col. Samuel Jones' Regiment aims for high standards of authenticity in dress and equipment, combined with a high standard of performance both on the battlefield and in our own living history displays. Some members have spent literally years researching cameo roles and collecting equipment, others buy the basics and turn up making up for lack of experience with enthusiasm and a desire to learn and take part.
The Regiment realises that not all members can afford to spend large amounts on clothing and equipment to start with, so schemes exist to help you by lending such items to start you off. In addition a significant amount of the money earned by putting on our own events is returned to members in the form of discounts on items that are essential.
However at the back of everything that the Regiment does is the need to have FUN! Our hobby gives us the opportunity to travel all over the country, to visit historic buildings (often with free admission), to fight on actual battlefields and also to sample the ever increasing numbers of regional brews! Are you prepared to have a go, to do your best and have fun doing it?
